Oceaneering International, Inc. offers streaming video solutions via the Web to clients for both ROV projects as well as general offshore projects. Typically these offshore and underwater projects include extremely costly ROV's (Remotely Operated Vehicles) performing intricate repair and maintenance tasks thousands of feet under water in either the Gulf of Mexico or the North Sea. The ability for onshore customers to "see" what was happening in real time was extremely compelling. In the past, Oceaneering had experimented with pre-configured PC's acting as video encoding and delivery vehicles utilizing the Windows Media Server technology over a satellite link. In order to enhance this service, Oceaneering turned to Rockport to brand, market and develop this as a primary offering to other Oceaneering customers across a variety of service lines and vertical market segments. To this end, Oceaneering engaged with Rockport Solutions to develop the following options:
- Brand and market analysis of video streaming projects
- Technical analysis in regards to scalability and "rapid deployment" of new projects with minimum IS involvement
- Creation of a working prototype with new branding and marketing visual components and interface
This video delivery was then "wrapped" inside a set of ASP scripts that provide the current set of "framework" components functionality via the Web:
- Delivery of streaming video content via Windows Media Server
- Delivery of all non-video Web content thru an IIS server
- Project task functionality
- Project status functionality
- Discussion group functionality
- Basic file vault functionality
- Co-branding of site for Oceaneering and client
